Introduction

I've refound cycling in my 40's. More than 20 years since the last time I've been on a bike. Its true what they say, once you learn to ride a bike you never forget. That first instant my foot went off the ground though doubt skittered across my mind but it was like I'd been riding every day for these last 20 years. Well balance wise any way, as far as endurance not so much.

I know I'm out of shape, too many cigarettes and beer across the years. Not to mention the only exercise I got before this was walking from my house to the car. My first excursion lasted about 10 minutes and about .8 miles at which point my legs turned to jello.

So here begins the great experiment. Can a 42 year old pack and a half a day (mostly reformed) all american couch potato turn it around? The only thing in my favor is I'm not over weight. I've got love handles and a beer gut and am soft and lumpy but I'm dead in the middle of my supposed ideal weight for my height. My Dr. has assured me that my heart won't explode and advised me to start slow. Like I'm physically capable of starting any other way.

So internet visitors, I'm inviting you all along to watch this potential train wreck. I'm hoping that keeping this up to date will help motivate me or motive someone else out there like me... The site isn't 100% yet but it will be soon. Check back often for new content and features.

Trek Navigator 2.0

Here is a picture of the bike I've chosen, well not my bike, but a picture of the style of bike I purchased. It is a Trek Navigator 2.0 from their comfort series. According to the place I purchased it, it is suppose to be the easiest on my lower back due to sitting up straighter. So far I've had no pain, and it is a very comfortable bike to ride. When shopping the choice really came down between this bike and a Hybrid style, my priorities being able to take it not so much off road but on back roads. Gravel, dirt, and access type roads if you will. The Trek has handled everything I've thrown at it so far, not that it has been a huge or extreme amount.
